“Quiet Location Near Minerve”
The gite sits in a quiet village near Minerve and the room is spacious. We were traveling across France, staying between 1 and 3 nights at each stop, so this was a one‑night stop, but the host mentioned that a single night is unusual for her gite and that there were no coffee pods in the room’s machine. She eventually supplied some, but it was unclear if we would be charged, as a note said they cost €1 each; she ultimately didn’t charge. The instructions were extremely detailed: you can sit on the terrace and picnic in the afternoon, but you’re not allowed to eat in the room, or use the terrace during breakfast and dinner, and the outdoor kitchen is off limits. The breakfast was sparse and didn’t match the photos, and there was no second cup of coffee. The bed was uncomfortable, the Wi‑Fi dropped intermittently, and a throw rug on the floor tripped us several times, so we slid it under the bed for the rest of the stay. We felt the host had a specific guest profile and we didn’t fit; it seemed more about collecting our money weeks in advance and giving us a roof than providing character and charm, unlike many other gites we’ve visited. There are also three small, noisy dogs that aren’t comfortable around strangers; we love dogs, but they may not be the best breed for the number of guests the place sees.
