“Nothing looks like the listing photos”
The host sent a message before I checked in, and the sign for Narusawaso on the road was hard to miss. It sits nicely between Kawaguchi and Saiko Lake, making both attractions easy to reach if you’re driving, and there’s free parking just outside Narusawaso. But nothing in Narusawaso matches the listing photos, except maybe the reception. The photos were fine when we booked, but they’re not recent; most of the “abandoned” stuff in Narusawaso dates back to 2015/2016, ten years ago. 1. Communication & Facilities – Even though the host had reached out before arrival, he was missing when I got there and I couldn’t reach the contact who was supposed to help. After checking in, there was no tour of the place or briefing about the facilities. The Wi‑Fi on the 2nd floor is almost unusable; it works fine on the 1st floor. 2. Poor Cleanliness & Malfunction (see photos) – The biggest problem: I could only upload 20 photos. If something is broken or scratched, you can’t see the cleanliness, but the whole place is dusty and smells. Like other reviews, the floor throughout is sinking and you can’t tell which tiles to avoid. The room itself was fine – no trash or hair, though the blankets had stains. The toilet and water outlet aren’t automatic but are clean; the trash bin in the toilet wasn’t emptied. The bath was totally different from the photos: the mats in the changing area had black stains and weren’t cleaned; the bath only had shampoo, no body wash; there were hairs and dust in the water, and the surface was yellowish because of age. I even had to kill spiders in the bath. The slippers weren’t clean either. 3. Amenities – Only small, outdated towels are provided. Toothbrushes are there, but no toothpaste. In short, I understand that accommodation in this touristy area is pricey, but we’re paying 8640 yen per night here.
