I was in Gruissan, less than 10 minutes from the beach, and there were small shops and large supermarkets nearby. The décor was off‑beat, still sporting Christmas decorations at the end of summer, and the place felt very dirty despite a brief refresh after the previous tenant. It started off seeming okay, but the obvious lack of upkeep and poor renovation materials made the space look old and unkempt, even the toilet door couldn’t be closed properly.

The location was great, the villa was quiet and had everything needed for a pleasant stay. The TV finally worked, which mattered because we’re familiar with the region’s quirks and the Clape mountains. We were surprised by how clean the accommodation was, close to the Grazel beach, with secure parking. The air conditioning helped us handle the heat in the first few days. I’d definitely come back. The gray gate to the courtyard needs a bit of oiling, but otherwise the temperature changes were normal.

“Villa Cochambre”

The house itself wasn’t bad; it just lacked large and small spoons, the air conditioning was fine, and the neighbourhood and location were great, but the cleaning ruined my entire stay. The house hadn’t been cleaned at all, not even superficially, since the French Revolution. I told the owner, who apologized but sent no one to clean, only saying the sheets, towels, counter, and microwave were changed—though the microwave wasn’t even clean. Floors were full of hair, lint, and grime from previous tenants; windows, doors, kitchen, and TV were dirty; the toilet was filthy, toothpaste residue in the sink, a brush left in a light fixture, the fridge was dirty with hair, grease, and dust. On the roof of the upper room there were underwear with someone’s excrement. The trash can held used ear buds, grease, and rubbish, and it stank. The owner mentioned cleaning supplies in case I wanted to tidy it up myself. This is unacceptable. I’m not picky; the house was just too filthy to be comfortable. I’ve attached photos to show the real condition. This owner shouldn’t rent anything in such an indecent, unhealthy state.

“Séjour agréable”

The location is the real highlight of this place. The exterior is pleasant. The fridge is really small, forcing me to shop every day, which is a real hassle. The freezer is unusable because the door is jammed by ice; we managed to pry it open and found it full. The toilet door opens inward, so you have to contort yourself to get in—strong people, women in their third trimester, and overweight men will have trouble. There was no information on where to dispose of trash, so my husband had to look it up. When we arrived, the microwave tray was stained, the TV screen had various marks, and the shower mirror was covered in splash marks, even though the cleaning had just been done (I called to confirm the room was ready).

Good and quiet location close to services, and a short walk to the beach. The yard is pleasantly shaded and surprisingly protective.
