“Don't pay more that £30”

The location was fine and right on a bus route, making it easy to get around. The place smelled damp and of cigarettes, had a strange layout, looked outdated and generally grubby, and wasn’t worth £65 for the night. The facilities were minimal, the sink was tinted, and the bathroom was tiny.

We split £70 among three of us and it turned out to be solid value; the beds were comfy, the room and bathroom were spotless, and overall it beat my expectations for the price.

“The worst place we have ever set foot in, shithole, avoid at all costs”

This place was a disaster. When we arrived the main door was boarded up, so we had to use a side entrance. The whole property smelled of stale cigarette smoke, the room was filthy with dirty, unwashed bed linens, and the carpet was old, dirty, and peeling at the edges. The shower had mould and dust, power points were loose, there were no bedside lamps, and the window wouldn’t open correctly. The ensuite was cramped, sitting on the toilet, and you could barely touch the shower; to reach the wash basin you had to stand sideways between the shower and the wall, and the shower door wouldn’t close properly. We tried to find another place that night but had no options, so we stayed the night, checked out first thing the next morning, and then found alternative accommodation for the rest of our trip.
