We were “emergency guests” because of a car breakdown in the area. The stay was truly a gift for us. Fantastic property with very generous Dutch hosts. Great rooms and a luxurious breakfast with people who really embody hospitality. Thank you for the warm welcome!

The house sits in a quiet village with a local bar and restaurant just a short walk away, and parking is on the premises. We paid for an upgrade upon arrival to get a bedroom on the first floor that had more natural light. The bedroom, sitting room and bathroom were spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. A kettle and a coffee pod machine were provided, along with a small selection of tea bags and coffee pods. The garden offers several spots to sit outside. Breakfast included bread, cheese, ham, a pastry, yogurt, cereal and a fruit salad, and a boiled egg or omelet was also available. The tea selection was not refilled during our stay, and the bathroom soaps and creams did not match the price point or the style of the property.

My wife and I were heading south to Switzerland and stopped for an overnight stay. The room was large, airy, and comfortable. Breakfast was of very high standard and beautifully presented. The property is remarkable; it is very old and the owners are slowly tackling the refurbishment it needs. It sits on the banks of a canal, and if you’re into rock‑climbing, a short walk east along the canal leads to cliffs that are clearly challenging for beginner climbers. We chose to dine at a restaurant in the village, but that was a mistake; the cuisine was disappointing. We should have gone to Dole, where there is a good selection of restaurants.

The castle is on the doorstep to spectacular walking and cycling routes, and the charming town of Dole is just a short drive away. The hosts were lovely, breakfast was perfect, and the castle had everything you could wish for. Renting their electric bikes for the day made for a superb outing. It was a lovely two‑day stay, and we now have a list of nearby visits, cycle rides, and restaurants we want to explore another time. Quite a gem.

The old manor feels like a knight’s castle, especially at breakfast, which is served in a tastefully decorated hall with a large wooden table. There is no buffet; instead, regional specialties are lovingly plated at each seat. The owner herself provides the service with great care.
