The building looks nice and historic, but it’s not well maintained; it sits in a touristy area that I don’t usually like, though I had planned to take the train. When I got there, I was told the air conditioning wasn’t working during a San Diego heat wave, and nobody had warned me beforehand even though the issue was obvious. Other guests were sprawled on their beds with windows and doors open or hanging out on the shared porch shirtless. The bed was short and uncomfortable, the room stayed hot, and the staff were practically invisible; the few I did see didn’t even acknowledge me. I’ve never felt so uncared for at a hotel. After booking, they didn’t respond to messages and offered nothing beyond a meal at a tourist spot with giant platters.

La ambientación cumple la promesa de aura de época. 1. El check in es incómodo. No hay personal siempre y hay que llamar por teléfono si no hay nadie. Si eres un turista extranjero y no tienes una línea telefónica operativa en EEUU no tienes como comunicarte. Tuvimos la suerte de que llegaron turistas locales con nosotros. 2. El wi fi no funcionó nunca 3. El desayuno es discreto, bastante pobre

I loved the historic building, and the staff made the biggest difference—especially the person making morning scones who kicked off my day perfectly. The building itself is beautiful and staying there was a joy. The only thing I’d change is that my room didn’t have a nightstand; a small place to set my phone and glasses would have been nice, but it wasn’t a major issue.
