Calabash Hotel, Migori

“Fantastisk. Over all forventning.”

The personnel were very accommodating and service‑oriented, with the manager greeting us daily and doing everything to meet our needs. Rooms were clean and the beds were neatly made. Breakfast was excellent, featuring omelette, beef steak, rice, chapati, and more, plus juice, milk, and cornflakes. The reception was available 24 hours and the staff were very friendly. The security guards had military experience and maintained high security, making us feel safe. Wifi was also very good. The only downside was slightly low water pressure in the shower, which was fixed quickly.

“Great”

Breakfast was pleasant when we arrived, and even though it changed on our departure morning it was still enjoyable. Some rooms, however, did not receive WiFi.

“vernachlässigtes runtergewirtschaftetes Hotel mit Gefahrenpotential!”

I had stayed here four years ago and it was a nice hotel with clean rooms and a pool, and locals came for meals. The recent visit was very disappointing: rooms and the pool were in poor condition, little upkeep, the small garden was replaced by a standing shell of a building, and instead of caring for the existing hotel, a second part was being managed. My colleague’s room had a broken lamp that was replaced, which was fine, but in my room the sink wasn’t fixed to the wall and collapsed while washing my face—luckily I wasn’t hurt. The staff muttered awkward “sorry, sorry” and seemed overwhelmed. The manager only arrived to wave at us when we were already in the car, dressed in a sharp suit. The rest was unprofessional: the booked taxi was untraceable, re‑ordering was a hassle, the pre‑ordered food took extremely long, the staff were eager but incompetent and overwhelmed, and we couldn’t get a bill for either the hotel or the taxi. Bottom line: lack of maintenance and dangerous construction.

This stay was for my mother‑in‑law who needed a last‑minute room after leaving the hospital. The staff were wonderful, recognizing she couldn’t use a room with stairs and instead gave her an accessible room. Thanks, Calabash, for your kind care of our mama.

The staff were friendly, but the breakfast could be improved.
