We couldn’t find a better spot in Andong, it seems. We stayed in a genuine Korean house built in 1879—once visited and highly praised by Queen Elizabeth II herself. The most amazing part is that a descendant of the original builders still lives there. Huge thanks to the host, a remarkably kind, attentive, and hospitable person you don’t meet every day; honestly, you should come just to meet him. The house is pure authentic Korea: traditional architecture, wooden structures, minimal modernity, and we slept on mats directly on the floor. It felt like we’d been transported to medieval Korea for one night. That experience made our visit to the UNESCO‑listed historic village of Hahwa different, letting us appreciate each building and understand how people lived centuries ago. This place is a must‑visit. If you’re in Andong, don’t hesitate—stay here. It’s not just a night’s stay, it’s a real plunge into Korean history and culture.
