“A beautiful property let down by poor guest care”
I love traveling, so when I saw Nomad Mykonos I thought it was a gorgeous spot, and the quiet setting was a real plus. Yet it felt like the hotel cared more about its image than the guests. I had to deal with black mold in the bathroom and keep asking for basic supplies. It all started with a shady deal about my booking. I had booked a week‑long stay, a non‑refundable rate that was advertised as “flexible to reschedule if plans change.” That flexibility was key to me, and I didn’t see any extra conditions. A few days before I was due to arrive, I got seriously sick with COVID and acute bronchitis, and my doctor told me not to travel because of pneumonia risk. I asked the hotel to push my reservation back a week; they said no. Later they claimed they’d consider exceptional circumstances if I provided a doctor’s note, which would cost £80 at the clinic. I asked if that would guarantee a reschedule before paying, and two days before departure they told me there was no guarantee and I’d have to either travel or lose the money. I went anyway, not wanting to lose a big chunk of my hard‑earned cash. When I got there, I showed management a screenshot of the terms (photo attached) and they said the flexibility only applied under conditions tied to the seven days before booking—something I hadn’t seen when I booked. That feels very misleading. A luxury hotel doesn’t have to agree to an exchange, but there are many ways to handle an exceptional situation with discretion, empathy and goodwill.
