The staff were all friendly, and the new ryokan looked clean and upscale inside and out. The little garden was nicely arranged, and the in‑room hot spring was very satisfying. The portions and quality of the food were excellent, and when we requested room service for the kids, the chef came over personally to hand us sushi, which left a strong impression and we were grateful. Everything from the facilities to the hospitality and the tasty meals was good, but the price felt too high as soon as I thought about it. The overall property was small, the garden tiny, there was no communal hot spring (only a small in‑room tub), the rooms were relatively close together, and because the site was already at the edge of Yufuin, it seemed that there simply wasn’t room to expand. When you consider that there are many larger, traditional, clean, and beautiful ryokans with wider room spacing and gardens nearby that cost less than half, the price‑to‑value ratio was disappointing. If the price were lowered by more than 30 %, it would become a great modern ryokan.
