“Great hotel serving excellent food with really lovely staff.”

We returned because we've stayed here before, and it lives up to the hype! The spot on the banks of Loch Lomond is easy to spot and the Manager is absolutely brilliant—friendly, helpful, and always cheerful. The restaurant food is superb, no wonder you have to book ahead because it's that popular. It’s a convenient stop on the way into the Highlands and beyond, and we’ll be back. The rooms feel a little cramped, and the bed was pressed against a wall, so one of us had to climb over the other to get out.

“More good than bad”

Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice, and you can go off menu—if you just want poached eggs on toast, they’ll do it for you. Evening meals were generally good; on one occasion they misplaced our order, but once we notified them it was fixed immediately and we received the meal free of charge. The location is great, right on the River Leven with Loch only a short walk away and plenty of other places to eat and drink—an ideal base to explore the area. The rooms seemed dark and poorly lit, so I had to buy a lamp to read at night. The staircase is steep and spirals, and the toilets for the downstairs bar are actually on the 1st floor with the guest rooms.

“Very comfortable rooms - the food in the restaurant was really good.”

The room was clean and tidy, and it was very convenient to be above a restaurant and bar. I was woken up by shouting on the main road, but that was not the property’s fault.

“Would not stay again … definitely not worth the money.”

The staff were nice, but the room was very small and worn out, as was the whole place. The bed was small and there was only one hard chair. The bathroom was okay. Breakfast had no cereals; when I asked, they only offered corn flakes that came with the milk already poured in. The croissant came with jam but no butter. Dinner in the restaurant was very slow, and when dessert never arrived, I just gave up.

The location was perfect, the food was delicious, and the staff were super friendly. The room was clean, tidy, and really cosy.
