The staff were fantastic and helpful, the location was great, they welcomed our dogs, and the food was amazingly good—hard to find better value at a country pub. The Wi‑Fi doesn’t work everywhere, but where it does, it’s fine.

The room was cosy, clean, and the staff were friendly, but there was no curtain on the en‑suite window.

The old inn is nicely maintained, has a nice character, is close to the fells, and only a short drive off the A66, making it ideal for an overnight stop. Nothing to note.

Breakfast was excellent, the cooked food was well-presented. We appreciated being able to have fresh milk in our room. Although there was no bath in our room, I was offered the opportunity to use the staff bathroom which was very thoughtful. Food in the evening was very good as was the beer. We did not realise that no food was served on a Sunday evening after 5P.M. This was an oversight by staff who were having to cope without the key man in charge. It is worth pointing out to visitors that tea pots are available at breakfast time. We used tea bags in mugs until we noticed that a drawer contained tea pots!

I love the location and the staff were friendly and helpful; breakfast was good too. The Wi‑Fi isn’t great, but that usually doesn’t matter.
