“The perfect house in Otsu for careful guests!”
We stayed here for a month at an unbeatable price. To truly enjoy the house, you must be tidy and willing to follow the owner’s instructions closely; otherwise, it won’t suit you. If you’re comfortable with that, you’ll love it. The owners, Shuji and his wife, are wonderful, but remember you’re staying in their home, not just renting a place. It’s an older Japanese house in a lovely neighborhood with attentive owners. If you dislike standard feather pillows, there are plenty of blankets. The A/C is powerful, and the kotatsu and small heater keep you warm in winter. The location is ideal for visiting Shiga and Kyoto, and Osaka is a quick, easy trip. We’re from Hawaii and took the train daily; the local Keihan stop is a short walk away, and from there you can reach almost anywhere with one or two transfers, even using the subway into central Kyoto. The house sits between the local line and the JR line, but is far enough away to be peaceful at night, which we loved. Friend Mart is a short walk and has almost everything you need; a bit further and you’ll find anything else. We explored the entire Lake Biwa area and had a perfect time. We never watch TV in Japan, so the lack of a television was fine for us. We use pocket Wi‑Fi, so the home’s service isn’t a factor.
