“Extremely disappointing stay — unacceptable treatment and violation of guest privacy.”
We stayed at this hotel/residence in Samarkand for two nights, and while the property itself and the basic amenities were fine, the receptionist named “Davut” behaved in a way that was completely unacceptable and ruined our experience. On the first day we asked if the hotel offered laundry service, and he told us our clothes could be washed. We handed over a substantial amount of clothing because we were traveling for several days. On the morning of checkout, starting around 8:00 a.m., we kept asking about our clothes and received vague answers. By 10:00 a.m. we were finally told the clothes were still wet and not ready, and at the same time we were expected to check out while our clothes were still with the hotel and not being handed back to us. This put us in an extremely unreasonable position; we could not properly pack our luggage because a significant portion of our clothing was still with the hotel. We had planned to leave early, finish sightseeing and shopping in Samarkand, and then take our 3:00 p.m. train to Tashkent, but instead a substantial part of our limited time in Samarkand was wasted because of the hotel’s inability to properly manage its own laundry service. We were eventually rushed through checkout and our belongings were moved to a tiny staff room, where we had to leave everything unpacked. We later asked if we could leave our luggage in the room temporarily and collect it when we returned, especially since the laundry delay had already disrupted our plans, but this was refused. When we returned later, we were given access to the same room we had checked out of so that we could pack. We had barely started when the receptionist began rushing us again. At one point, while we were changing clothes, he opened the door without knocking. This was completely inappropriate and a serious invasion of our privacy.
