We left. It was really poor

The old building is lovely, with good parking. The rooms are quaint and the surroundings comfortable. It’s nice to have locals in the bar and a homely atmosphere. The en‑suite needs upgrading; the shower is effective and hot but the grout and metalwork are worn. The tight layout is limited by the building’s age. The step down into the room isn’t marked with a band. The socket for kettle and TV may be overloaded, as the TV went off when the kettle was on. The bedside light isn’t working.

We loved the ambience of the hotel, and the host was friendly and made us feel very welcome. We highly recommend it.

I usually skip reviews, but this stay was so let‑down that I had to write. The room felt like it hadn’t been properly dusted or cleaned, and the windows in both the bedroom and bathroom let in a huge amount of noise and draft—felt icy in October, so imagine winter. The draft even kept opening the bathroom door while someone was inside. The mattresses were old and the bed linen had marks. The bedside lamp wouldn’t work on any outlet; the staff at checkout mentioned many guests had the same issue, so why not replace it? Wi‑Fi was weak or non‑existent in the room, probably because the routers sit downstairs in the pub. Breakfast was a nightmare: nine wasps buzzed around despite the windows being shut, so there must be a nest nearby. We tried to give feedback at checkout, but the staff member was only interested in giving us a £10 discount on the room rate. We took photos just in case.

The staff were welcoming and the room was lovely. Nothing to add.
