It’s close and convenient to all of Vail, with wonderful beds and a mountain view. The Evergreen is getting old, paint is peeling, and the place looks tired.

“Smelly room, rude staff, inability to make it right. Book with caution.”

If you’re planning a special occasion at Evergreen Lodge, stay away. We booked it for a Vail trip the day after our wedding. The two front‑desk staff were very off‑putting and made it clear they didn’t want to be there, and we were just checking in. My wife and I are forgiving, so we thought maybe they had a bad day. We checked into our room and immediately smelled an overwhelming odor of urine – not sure if it was a pet. We said, “Okay, that is pretty bad, but let’s open the window and see how we can make this work.” Fifteen minutes passed, and the smell still didn’t go away. The hotel has no A/C, only personal fans, and ours didn’t work. We went back to the front desk within 20 minutes of checking in, and they were annoyed by us simply bringing up our experience. They said they would process a refund if we spoke to booking. We spoke to booking; booking said it’s up to them. We went back to talk to them, and they said they would not give a refund. After this whole process, they offered a different room, but the experience was so poor that we just decided to book another hotel. They denied all refund requests and continue to blame booking. I have left two bad reviews in my life, and normally I’m understanding that people have a bad day or things might not go as planned, but this was a new level.

The spot was convenient, but our room smelled like human or dog urine and we had to swap rooms, which made us doubt the cleaning standards; the staff helped us switch, yet the floor we ended up on was saturated with a strong pot scent from a nearby non‑smoking room, which was awful, and overall the experience felt unwelcoming—we’ll never return.
