“Good hotel, reasonable price. I’d stay here again”
The location, parking, and hotel facilities were good. The building looked a bit tired.
“Suited our needs.”
The location was ideal for our needs and the staff were very friendly. The room we stayed in was tired, and had several maintenance issues
We stayed a few years back and it wasn't a good experience. Everyone has an off-day so we thought we would give it another try as the village location is rather nice. What a difference! A significant improvement to cleanliness, room content and room temperature. The joy of finding a decent hairdryer and iron to hand was an absolute bonus! Breakfast was really good (and hot) and restaurant staff are very attentive, friendly and helpful as are the Reception team. The cleaning team are efficient and also very quiet and discrete as they move around. We also loved the 'do not service' environmental policy approach and the free drink voucher is a very good incentive. Overall, it's been great to stay this second time and I am glad there has been a marked improvement. I would definitely recommend and it is a great location for the Harry Potter experience. There are also two excellent nearby pubs: Kings Arm and the Unicorn (both within walking distance). Not a case of 'not liking', but the bar seating area could be made more 'homely' and less leather office, clinical looking. This might encourage more people to stay in the evening (spend money inhouse) rather than venturing down to the nearest pub. It's fine in the day but a more ambient, warm looking environment would enhance the experience. In the same space, a few higher level seated chairs would be great for those (like me) that struggle with lower seat height. Again, not a whinge but mini fridges are always welcome and fresh milk in medium cartons/jugs always make for a better experience than the tiny carton ones so often used by hotels
“Dirty”
The location and staff were excellent. The food was terrible, especially the pizza, which tasted like frozen pizza. The room was dated and dirty. I wouldn’t stay again.
“Overall it was a very good experience”
The staff were excellent, especially Poppy at reception and Roxie in the restaurant—very helpful and friendly. The rooms had a lovely view over the grounds, and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The room was a little smaller than I expected for the price, but it was well appointed. There were ring marks on the bathroom unit and no shower mat, so the shower was very slippery.
