The hotel is steeped in history and definitely worth a stay.

It was in the centre of Whitby, and the staff were clean and friendly; however, there was no milk in our room for coffee and the TV wouldn’t work, but I didn’t go down to ask since I was the only one there that night.
The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are very polite and helpful, but the stairs are too steep for anyone with limited mobility.

The location was fine, but the property was dirty, the bathroom needed renovation, a dirty bath rolled up near the toilet had to be thrown away, the radiator was filthy, worn and rusty, dust was everywhere—including under the tables where we had breakfast and cobwebs everywhere—and the breakfast was terrible; the eggs were over‑cooked and burnt, everything seemed cremated, and I have never stayed in such a dirty, unkempt hotel. I travel worldwide and would not recommend this place; standards and inspections should be enforced before it can advertise.
