The hotel sits in a sketchy part of town that made me feel unsafe, like a rundown neighbourhood. The rooms were cramped and the amenities barely met basic needs; I even found a towel that was already torn. I’ve stayed at Atour properties in Shanghai and Nanjing before and they were fine, but this one was a real disappointment.

Cleanliness was spot‑on and the place is within easy walking distance of Tiananmen, the Temple of Heaven and Wangfujing. The only gripe is the street right in front is so narrow that cars are always parked there, making it a hassle to get in or out.

The exterior might look odd, but inside the rooms are spacious, spotless and newly decorated, with everything you’d need. Staff don’t speak English, so we had to use a translation app at check‑in. We chose the hotel for its closeness to the Temple of Heaven—about a ten‑minute walk to the metro and a bit longer to the temple—and there are a few cafés, restaurants and a tiny shop nearby. The only downside was that the Wi‑Fi never connected.
