If you’re into that vibe and want to head to the area near Merzouga in Morocco, I recommend visiting the Obira oasis at the foot of one of the tallest dunes in the region. Oases are rare there and truly charming. The camp’s look blends perfectly with the dune environment. Unlike the luxury camps at the desert’s edges that offer every possible comfort, Obira hosts you in traditional Amazigh tents run by two wonderful brothers, Mohamed and Mustafa, who are native to the area. Their camp dates back 30 years and was the first in the desert. You’ll live an authentic desert life and share mutual exchange with Mohamed and Mustafa. We spent the evening playing together and swapping stories and information in a curious, exchange‑oriented relationship. Later, they kindly turned off the lights so we could better observe the surrounding beauty. If you’re looking for a camp that lets you experience the desert, this is the right one.
