The breakfast was brilliant. The staff were very friendly and personal, with an informal tone and a pleasant bar area. The location was perfect. However, there were many stairs and no elevator, and some interior areas looked worn.

The historic building was lovely and the location was perfect. Our room was great, on the top floor with a fantastic sea view. Harvey and the entire staff were helpful, friendly, and assisted us with a car rental. Breakfast was superb and the bar lively, making the service a true five‑star experience. The only drawback was that there is no lift, but the staff would carry your bags up if needed, which was fine for us.

The Grand Hotel may have seemed a bit tired now, but the room’s comfort and the staff’s friendliness more than made up for it. It appears the hotel is slowly upgrading, so I expect it to be even better in the future. The old‑world bar and lounge were nice for an after‑dinner drink. My room was warm, comfortable, and the en suite was very clean and neat. Breakfast offered both cooked and continental options in a grand dining room, but the grandeur made it feel somewhat funeral‑like. Adding music during breakfast would soften the formality.

The towels were nice, and the avocado dish from the chef was a thoughtful touch. Everything else was shockingly bad: the decor was ripped, dated, and dirty; the bath had mold along the edges; the window had to be forced open for fresh air; the sleeping receptionist behind the desk was rude and surly, but she did take my case downstairs when I asked. The curtain swags were thick with dust, and the mattresses were lumpy yet soft and saggy. Paying £276 for all that was more than anyone can stomach.
