The Grande Denali Lodge, situated 1.6 miles from Alaska Travel Adventures and Denali National Park, offers panoramic views of Denali Canyon. Warmly colored rooms feature dark hardwood furniture, cable TV with the Alaska Channel, work desks, and refrigerators. The lodge boasts a 24-hour front desk, river rock fireplaces, and the Alpenglow Restaurant serving contemporary meals.

The view from outside the restaurant was great, the room was large, and there was a free shuttle to town, but for a top‑class lodge they still need to improve a few things. It was very expensive, no housekeeping came for a two‑night stay—even the rubbish bins weren’t emptied. Don’t buy the boxed lunch if you plan a bus ride into the park; the food is inedible and you wasted $24. Some staff could use better customer‑service training.

The location, quiet, and scenery were impressive; the room was wonderful and breakfast was excellent and varied. There was a direct pickup from the hotel to the Denali tour. The price was very high compared to other beautiful hotels in Alaska, but otherwise everything was great.

The main hotel was closed because of “technical” problems, so we stayed at the sister property Denali Bluffs, which totally saved the day even though they weren’t ready to open. The team did an outstanding job—especially the barman, who was a character and made everything worthwhile. They went above and beyond to rescue the situation, and the only downside was that we slept on the mattress protector as they scrambled to open.

The property is beautiful, but they cancelled our first night because of frozen pipes and no water, so we only stayed one night. On our second night the room was nice, yet it hadn’t been inspected properly before we were given it: a big picture was missing from the wall, only the metal brackets remained, and the smoke detector was hanging from the ceiling on a wire. Given the room’s cost, that was unacceptable.
