Bibi turned out to be a real lifesaver – we arrived far later than planned and my phone died, yet she waited at the bottom of the hill and led us straight to the pousada. Her breakfast was easily the best part of our month traveling around Brazil. The only let‑down was that, because we booked at the last minute, we got a plain room instead of the colorful ones shown online, and it didn’t even have a lamp, which made it feel a bit uncomfortable.

The place is beautiful and the host is incredibly friendly; yes, you have to walk uphill to reach it, but the view and atmosphere make the effort worthwhile.

Staying in a quiet favela with Bibi felt authentic – she was warm and always ready to help, and her breakfasts were probably the best I've had in Rio. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, though getting there meant climbing a lot of steps, which could be a hassle.

The pousada sits on a hill in a calm neighbourhood, and the host gave clear directions and a warm welcome; the shared kitchen (even if the appliances are a bit worn) and the homemade‑style breakfast were definite pluses. Unfortunately the walk up is littered with trash, and our room was small and let in a lot of noise from other guests.

The breakfast was tasty, Bibi was welcoming, and the garden added a nice touch, but the fact that the property is in a favela means you can't get a Uber there and have to hike up a hill and tackle many stairs – something the listing didn’t warn about. The fan in our room was noisy and barely worked, and a stray cat slipped in through the window, leaving our clothes muddy. While we never felt unsafe, it was unsettling to see locals strolling around with guns.
