Only the bed sheets were clean and the desk clerk was polite; those were the only pleasant parts of my stay. The hotel was listed as Sands Hotel, yet the sign read OYO and no lobby or desk mentioned Sands. The address on the listing was for the neighboring building, and a man there directed me to the lobby. In my first room the bathtub released grey water with mold floating in it, the shower wouldn’t work, and the phone was broken. I was moved to a second room, which was absolutely filthy: mold around the toilet caulk, a hole in the wall behind the bathroom door, a slimy floor that left my feet brown‑colored, and two chairs so dirty I wouldn’t sit on them. The deadbolt wouldn’t lock, the keycard battery was hanging out of the lock, towels were stained or torn, the bedspread was stained, paint was disgusting, and different patches didn’t match. The mini‑fridge hinge was completely rusted.
