“Nothing short of amazing!”
The place was great because it’s tucked away in the city centre and just a 30‑second walk to the beach.

We had a wonderful time at Secret Gardens. The rooms were perfect, the welcome and hosting were amazing, and the garden feels truly magical. We’re looking forward to visiting during the open day next year.

The Secret Garden Rooms are beautifully finished with exposed wooden beams and plenty of period details. There’s a wide selection of coffee, tea, biscuits, soft towels, dressing gowns, and a good library. We booked a lovely garden room, a conservatory in the middle of a lush garden, full of crime thrillers and comfy sofas, and spent a delightful rainy morning there. It was divine. I don’t think it was made clear when I booked that we wouldn’t have our own entrance. We didn’t mind – Lyn and Barry were lovely to interact with and their house was gorgeous – but that’s important to know. The stairs are exceptionally steep and twisty; they mitigated this with soft carpet and plenty of handrails, but it might not be ideal for young children. Parking was also a bit of an issue; we had to move the car at odd times to find a local spot, even with a parking permit thoughtfully provided by the hosts.

The spot is great, just a handful of steps from the town centre and the beach. The place itself is lovely and quiet, a real gem, though the stairs are pretty steep—though that adds a bit of charm. It would help to note that you have to pass through the owners’ kitchen to get to the rooms, but that didn’t pose a big issue.

Right in the middle of the high street but tucked inside nice gardens, the location is spot‑on. A short walk to the train station and the beach, and it’s quiet enough to relax. They even provide a parking permit. The only drawback is that you access the rooms via the owners’ kitchen.
