After hours it felt very secluded, letting me wander and stargaze freely, with access to bird enclosures and reptiles; Woody, the host representative, gave a thorough tour. However, the swan with its chick can be “dangerous” as they protect their young and may deter tourists, and the kitchenette and dining area could use more space.

Having the park all to ourselves was a unique experience! The accommodation was cozy, warm, and fully equipped; the bed was comfortable and everything spotless. We could hear birds all day and kiwis at night.

The location was fantastic, and the cottage was spotless and comfortable. It sits right beside the park toilets, and people walk past the cottage, but that downside is more than offset by having the park to ourselves at night.

Waking up surrounded by nature felt like stepping into a 1950’s New Zealand bach, with birdsong and silence greeting me each morning. The pull‑out couch in the lounge was a bit uncomfortable, though.
