Everything was under one roof, so it was very convenient, and we stayed there all day; the only improvement would be clearer communication from staff about the facilities, as we had never been there before and were left unaware of what was available at the reception and spa, causing us to miss some amenities, but otherwise it was a good stay.

The TLH hotel was the coziest among the ones we’ve stayed at, like Derwent and Victoria. The room was basic but roomy, clean and comfy. The shower head was tied down with a shoelace, which kind of let down the bathroom’s standard. The water was comfortably hot for showers and hand‑washing. The restaurant had a pleasant décor but felt “tired” and could use a refresh; the walls near the tables were grubby. Breakfast was enjoyable and the food was hot; coffee was good. The pool and spa areas were lovely, probably the best part of the complex. The singers and bingo in the Carlton entertainment hall were okay, but the room was far too big for the number of guests, which took away the atmosphere, though we still liked the singers. The lifts were “scary” – very small, slow, and the view of the walls through the glass doors as we moved up and down the floors was not good. Staff were friendly everywhere. The only thing that let the hotel down was the décor in the corridors: the carpets were worn and grubby in many areas, though they seemed well vacuumed. We had a nice, relaxing weekend and will definitely return. The corridors and lift were the main negatives.

The spa facilities were good. However, I booked a double room and received a twin room instead. All the pillows were stained, and wires were exposed on the radiator in the bathroom. The lift button didn’t work on the ground floor, and after paying for parking there was no space available in the carpark.
