Ray Guest House

I had a lovely stay at Ray Guesthouse and even extended my visit by two extra nights, which says everything. The rooms sit at the rear of the property, so the busy street outside is hardly audible. The place is spotless and well kept, and the staff are friendly and helpful while still giving you plenty of privacy—ideal if you value peace and quiet. The location is superb, with the city centre within walking distance, so I could get anywhere on foot, which was very convenient. I would definitely recommend staying here and would happily return.

“scary, unsafe, lies.”

When I arrived, the electricity was out. I asked for a fix, but there was no AC and no power, and the accommodation was at the back of a house. I was then moved to a villa without any prior notice or my permission. The whole process was opaque, and I kept getting misleading info. A woman named Putri told me to ride her scooter without a helmet, while she wore one. That felt unsafe. Putri never honestly said how far the place was; she kept saying it was only five minutes away, but she actually drove about 25 minutes to a remote village. It was dark, hard to find, and I had no idea where I was—my scariest experience ever. She kept calling it an “upgrade” and telling me I should be happy, but the villa was isolated with no reliable connection or communication. At 11:00 p.m. I had to go to a neighboring house to ask for help finding a taxi because the villa was in a remote village. I felt terrified and unsafe the whole time. I had to call and pay for a taxi to leave, which added extra costs. When I told the manager about this, no reimbursement was offered.

It’s a very convenient spot if you want a quiet but accessible homestay around Ubud. The place is clean, the staff are helpful, and we loved the little garden next to the room where we spent time taking photos and meditating. The simple room comes with a nice shower and good ventilation, and the AC is strong. It might not be the best choice if you’re looking for absolute privacy, because construction workers around the homestay can be seen from the room (within the homestay), but if you keep the curtain closed all the time, it’s fine.

The garden is really well maintained, and the staff are helpful and warm. The room was spotless. If I ever go back to Ubud, I’ll definitely stay here again. Everything was perfect!
