It’s a nice, quiet spot that fits my budget, has a pool, and is best for traveling with friends because of its shared spaces and rooms.

There was no breakfast, and everything else was bad.

I recently stayed at Diani Hostel and overall it was a good experience; the price is very affordable and the facilities are fair for a one‑star place. The hostel sits a bit inland but is convenient: the beach is about a 25‑minute walk or KES 70 by motorbike, and from Ukunda town a tuk‑tuk costs KES 300–400 while a motorbike is KES 200. My private room with a bathroom was clean and comfortable, and the place stayed quiet, making it suitable for solo travelers and groups alike. The swimming pool was nice and I enjoyed swimming, but there were leaves in the pool and around the pool area, and I didn’t see any cleaning or chlorine treatment during my stay; the pool benches could also use more frequent cleaning. The kitchen is available for KES 200 per day, which includes the fridge and utensils; it’s a small space that the staff also use, so sometimes you may have to wait. Meals can be prepared for about KES 550 per plate, although options were limited when I stayed, so bringing your own food is advisable; nearby grocery shops are available. There’s no TV in the rooms, only in the common area, but that wasn’t a big issue since you’re in Diani—go enjoy the beach instead. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, I’d recommend Diani Hostel if you’re after affordable, simple accommodation rather than luxury; my main suggestion is to improve the cleanliness and maintenance of the pool area, but for the price I can’t complain.
