The Lodge really sits in the middle of nowhere, only reachable by a gravel road, which makes the nature experience amazing and the night sky full of stars. Hosts Hans and Meisie are warm‑hearted people who try to make the visit as carefree as possible, and they serve a hearty, tasty breakfast. The rooms are tiny and simple but perfectly adequate, and the farm dog Ranger loves to join you on hikes. A veranda that wraps around half the house and a braai corner provide a nice spot to unwind, and the detailed directions to the lodge are a real help out in the middle of nowhere. It wasn’t clear to us beforehand that “Wi‑Fi included” only covered Google and WhatsApp, so we were completely offline – which turned out to be fine for our two days there.

It’s beautifully located, right in the middle of nowhere with a stunning natural setting and a memorable starry sky. The rooms, kitchen, and outdoor spaces are gorgeous, and the breakfast is very extensive. Truly recommended; I wish we could have stayed longer. Everything was perfect.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Shama Lodge. The hosts were amazing and made us feel very welcome from arrival to departure. The hiking trails on the farm were fantastic with the most amazing mountain views, and the views from our room were simply breathtaking. We felt safe throughout our stay, and the beautiful rock mountain less than 200 m with mountain rabbits was an unexpected highlight. The cellphone signal wasn't great, but for us that was actually a blessing—it gave our family the chance to spend quality time together instead of being on our phones. We also loved that we could bring our two English Bulldogs (1 year and 4 months old). Ranger, the resident guard dog, was incredibly friendly and got along so well with them. We can't wait to visit again!

The location, friendliness, and Ranger the dog were great, and breakfast was convenient and tasty, offering good value for money. The unit felt a bit cramped and the braai area needed lights outside.
