The Bougainvillea Bed & Breakfast

The location was good – neither too far nor too close to the Harminder Sahib. The decor was excellent, with a poignant landscape and a beautifully decorated old property. The owner was friendly and always willing to chat. I think I liked everything!

“value for money homestay at a very good location- run down and too many rules for a relaxing holiday”

The spot is in a great location and offers good value, though it’s more of a homestay than a hotel, so if you’re looking to avoid the hotel vibe, this works. Cleanliness could use a lot of work—the room feels a bit run down, the bedsheets, towels, and floor aren’t very clean, and the bathroom is just so‑so. The house has a lot of rules; while it’s a lovely family home, the seven‑page rule book and the sheer number of rules really pulled us out of relaxation mode, even though we were only there for one night. Basic rules are fine, but overall it feels like a very strict homestay.

What’s nice about this place is that it’s tucked into a residential villa area a little out of the city center, making it safe, clean, and quiet; getting downtown is a breeze by taxi or rickshaw, and walking around the Golden Temple area is pedestrian‑only, so a short stroll is always possible. The garden is lovely and free for all guests. The hosts serve excellent food, both breakfast and dinner, and the staff are helpful, friendly, and flexible. We stayed in a front‑area room that was okay but not as special as the pictures, yet the bed was really comfortable. The downside was that the room had a moldy wall that made it stinky, there were many mosquitoes and no bug screens or mosquito net, and the front building looked like it needed renovation compared to the nicer back building where our friends stayed.

“Good value and host was very welcoming.”

The location was decent and everything we needed was there, though the shower was basic and the water pressure wasn’t great.
