The breakfast was hearty and satisfying, with plenty of seating and a well-stocked spread; biscuits and gravy turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the hot tub on the first evening, but it was unfortunately out of order on the second night.

We were just looking for a last‑minute, inexpensive stay in Santa Cruz and were pleasantly surprised by the Mission Inn. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were very friendly, and the location was great—there was a BCycle docking station a couple of blocks away.

The hotel’s location is convenient, close to the boardwalk and the coast, and the facility feels cozy and well decorated. The bed was soft and comfortable. We booked under both of our names weeks in advance, but when we called on the morning of arrival, the male front desk staff, Stacy, said there was no reservation under my name, even though I had paid with my card. He claimed the rooms were all filled and told us to call the booking website to find out why the reservation was cancelled. We almost had to cancel the trip, but after giving him the second name he located the room for us. Traffic noise from the street was audible from our room, and the window unit air conditioner wouldn’t stay on during the night when it was hot.
