I loved how the place was perfect for hiking, but there was no fridge in the room.

A spontaneous stop on our holiday took us to the Waldhaus‑Hutzelhöh in Ruhla, where we were greeted warmly and even got to dine on the beautiful terrace, the food—regional, homemade—was superb. We ended the evening on that terrace with a view of Ruhla, feeling relaxed. The room was spotless and the beds comfortable. After a quiet night, breakfast was served at the table, which I find very pleasant because there’s no frantic rush to the buffet; you can enjoy your meal calmly and start the day. The value for money is good. We also had a great chat with the friendly owner and can recommend the Hutzelhöh with confidence. Everything feels authentic and appropriate, no façade or pretension. We were fully satisfied. Parking is available in front of the house, a bit tight but doable. In the surroundings we could hike nicely (Carl Alexander Turm Runde) and Ruhla is worth seeing with its clock history. A visit to the mini‑a‑thür is worthwhile, and for those who want a bit of action, the steepest summer toboggan run in Germany (35 % slope) is right there.
