Karpacz

A mountain resort built around granite peaks and trailheads.

introduction

Overview

Karpacz stretches five kilometres uphill along the Łomnica River valley into the Karkonosze range. You reach the town by bus or car from Wrocław or Jelenia Góra. Trailheads start at the top of the main road and lead directly onto Śnieżka summit. Expect steep walking routes between hotel districts and unpredictable mountain weather year-round.

Arrival trick

Buses from Jelenia Góra train station drop off directly at Karpacz Bachus stop. This saves a steep uphill walk with luggage.

UNESCO status

The town sits on the edge of Karkonosze National Park, a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Strictly marked trails protect fragile alpine tundra.

food

Mountain trout and Silesian dumplings

Dining in Karpacz centers on regional Karkonosze dishes and freshwater fish from local streams. Restaurants along Konstytucji 3 Maja serve fried trout sold by weight alongside potato-based mountain meals. Silesian dumplings with dark beef gravy remain standard fuel after peak hikes.

Śląskie kluski (Silesian potato dumplings) served with meat stew in regional taverns.
