The staff were very friendly and helpful. The parking was often full and there was no way to know if you could park overnight; a nearby free overnight car park was available, but you had to drive around the one‑way system again and retrieve your car before 8 am. The room and bed were very hot, which would be great in cold weather but not in a hot autumn.

The single room was very spacious, the grab rail by the bath was a nice touch, and all the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast service was efficient and the food was very good.

I liked the convenient spot and the decent meals, but the second‑floor room got uncomfortably warm during the hot period.

The location was perfect, right in the middle of a lovely market town with parking, great restaurants, etc. The large coaching‑inn‑style hotel definitely needs a refurbishment: plaster on the bedroom ceiling was coming down, windows needed replacing, and the bathroom and furnishings were dated. The public areas were okay and the shabby‑chic look worked, with a clean, attractive bar area and good dining options.
