The team is very friendly and welcoming, working on an interesting ecological project. Sandi was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic wildlife guide, while John and Errol served delicious food—both Sri Lankan and Western. We stayed for two days mainly to birdwatch and relax, and we did just that. A trip to the nearby wildlife park could be arranged, but we were happy right where we were. No negatives.

Location: Wasgamuwa and Web of Life are off the beaten path in Sri Lanka. The last stretch of trail is bumpy, but a normal car can handle it. You’re rewarded once you pass the gate. Facilities: The pool is large and the water temperature is perfect and clean, with plenty of loungers. We had the pool to ourselves. There’s a big restaurant and a large garden, and information on flora and fauna is available. Rooms: The rooms are neat and clean, with excellent beds and comfortable air conditioning. Above your cottage is a bird‑watching spot reachable by a ladder, and a sofa sits on the veranda. From the terrace you can see the rice field and birdbaths. In the morning, feathered friends and squirrels visit. Surroundings: A lake, a hill you can climb for a view, the Wasgamuwa National Park is nearby, and there are places where wild elephants roam, many birds, and various small animals. A bit further out is a large waterfall that can also be visited. Staff: Service and knowledge from the naturalist, tracker, hotel manager, chef, and assistants. One word: top! Food: Spectacular breakfast and great dinner. Atmosphere matters and they listen to your wishes; children are spoiled. Safari? No, nature experience: Web of Life offers no safari but experience. Their excursions include a driver, tracker, and naturalist. There is knowledge of behavior, respect for nature, observation, and learning. This is nature experience as it should be. Wasgamuwa is also a park where you don’t have to drive through safari jeeps and can calmly watch dozens of elephants. Yes, the sloth bear and leopard are there, but they are shy. No negatives—nothing was off. This was the highlight of our Sri Lanka trip in terms of accommodation and nature experience.

From the moment we arrived, Errol and Sandy welcomed us and shared their story about the reserve and their research to preserve it. It’s not just a hotel; it’s an immersion into their daily life and love for nature and animals (you should stay at least two nights). We left with them on a safari; for me it was my first, and I think I couldn’t have dreamed of better company! I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to disconnect in nature. Nothing at all was wrong; everything was perfect.

What an amazing spot – I’d love to give it more stars. Everything was spot‑on, especially the food, which was truly delicious, and the staff made us feel right at home. This turned out to be the best place we’ve ever stayed in Sri Lanka. We also booked the safari to the wildpark through them, and Sandy joined us, making it a blast. In the morning they whisked us up to the mountain to watch the local birds. Thanks for a fantastic stay.
