I had the ultimate authentic Japanese experience, but everything was so carefully prepared that it felt a bit over‑engineered.

The location is perfect, right in the center of Hagi, and everything is reachable on foot or bike; the garden is amazing and will be registered as a national cultural asset in 2025, so it’s smart to book before it gets crowded. The price is high, but given it’s a tourist spot and a cultural heritage site, I understand why.

The table had a written history of the Maeyahara family, and having that background made the stay feel like a time‑travel experience; the garden’s layout and tree names were thoughtfully arranged, and a small museum tour inside the store was both meaningful and fun. The couple who started the homestay three years ago put their taste and attention into every detail, and the bath, food, and warm hospitality healed both mind and body. My elementary‑school grandchild was also very satisfied. There were no complaints.
