“My heart will always be in Silver Bay!”
Although this was the first time I've ever stayed at the Inn, Silver Bay has been a part of my life for nearly 60 years, so I admit that bias. The rooms are clean, quaint, and comfortable. If you're looking for luxury, go to the Sagamore. But if you want peace, beautiful views of the lake, the friendliest people ever and a true Adirondack experience? You can't do better than the Inn. My only complaints are completely minor -- breakfast is in the next building over, so you sorta have to wear shoes, and I had trouble the first evening finding the elevator because it's in a corner you don't expect. And I'm only even mentioning either one so that I have something to say in the unsmiley box
“Overall great!”
Lake George never fails to impress, and since I grew up visiting Silver Bay, it always holds a special place in my heart. The coffee was surprisingly good—something hotels and resorts rarely get right. The cafeteria offered a buffet, so my expectations were low; however, the meats at breakfast were dry on both days: the ham on the first day and the sausage on the second were overcooked and cold. We were among the first to arrive for breakfast, and with a skeleton crew on hand, no one checked if guests had paid or guided us to the cafeteria. We were told, “you know you have to purchase a meal ticket?” even though I already had one, which made us feel out of place.
“Overall it was a vey nice stay, very peaceful, tranquil and beautiful grounds and access to the lake and the beach.”
We enjoyed the facility and the many nearby activities, though we didn’t get to try all of them. The Inn looks old and beautiful from the outside but needs room upgrades. We were grateful that our room was upgraded to one with A/C after the 4th of July weekend, which was hot and humid. The fireworks display was amazing. Most rooms don’t have A/C because the Inn is old; they try to provide fans or portable units, but they could better inform guests about this. I expected A/C in a U.S. hotel to be standard. The restaurant food was basic, breakfast was okay but not special for the price, and the dinner on the last night was good, but you must arrive right when it opens—by the time you get there an hour before it ends, there’s hardly anything left.
I picked this place only because it was close to the open swim I signed up for. The room was small and cleaned and it turned out to be on a beautiful property. I would definitely go back. I wish they sold postcards
“Worth a visit”
The historic building sits on beautiful grounds with a view of Lake George in the Adirondacks, and the bed was comfortable. The shower water temperature fluctuated wildly, and some rooms lack air conditioning.
