Bakotu Hotel

The hotel was clean, quiet, and well kept. We had booked airport transfer and were told a driver would be waiting, but there was none. We got there at 1 AM, tried calling the hotel repeatedly with no response, and finally took a taxi—cheaper than the promised service.

The staff were super friendly and helpful, the kitchen was great, the pool was lovely, and the garden was beautiful. The complex is small, which made it feel cozier than the big all‑in‑all complexes, and its central location was perfect. Our room was tiny; we couldn’t turn our butt in the bathroom, but the next day we were able to switch to an apartment for a small extra fee, which was great.

I liked the spot because it’s close to where you can book bird‑watching tours and there are platforms for spotting birds. You can also order a taxi that will wait for up to two hours. The staff were very helpful. When we were leaving, a lot of pushy tour operators tried to sell us activities, and the room was pretty dark.

There’s peace in the garden and by the pool, and the location is good—some restaurants are across from the hotel and the beach is nearby. The only downside is that there aren’t enough shaded spots around the pool.

“Bakotu hotel, laid back African style”

The hotel feels traditional and relaxed, family‑owned with staff who are absolutely lovely, funny, friendly, and helpful. It has a quirky African vibe and isn’t trying to be perfect. It’s close to the beach in a quiet area, the pool is super and never busy, and the gardens are beautiful with cheeky monkeys visiting often. The downside is the lack of written information about the amenities, and mosquitoes can be an issue if you’re prone to bites.
