The resort itself is lovely, right on the beach and very peaceful, and the room is lovely with a very comfortable bed—though only two pillows were provided on a double bed, so an extra would have helped. We didn’t get a TV in the room even though some reviews mention one. The gym was a pleasant surprise, something I hadn’t seen mentioned elsewhere. The resort has great potential, but it feels massively understocked and understaffed, which makes it feel like you’re constantly being ripped off. From the start, the stay was disappointing: at check‑in we discovered the room door wouldn’t lock, and when we asked, the staff were surprised and said someone would come to fix it, but no one did until the next morning. Towels were scarce throughout our stay; we only received one towel on arrival and were told there were no more pool towels, while about six other people at the pool had theirs. The resort is unbelievably understocked on everything, which isn’t acceptable for the price. Meals and drinks are extortionate: a main meal ranges from 50 to 95, and a coffee costs 11 FJD. The all‑inclusive doesn’t seem worth it because many main meal options aren’t included, and many drinks we tried to order were unavailable. I was relieved we didn’t opt for all‑inclusive, as it didn’t feel truly all‑inclusive and was very expensive. If you were to choose the most expensive options on the meal plan for dinner, the maximum could be 120 FJD. (Pics included for reference; the pork, rib eye and lamb were not part of the meal plan.) They charge 140 FJD per person for a 3‑course dinner (not all‑inclusive) on the meal plan. At the end, when we paid our bill, a service charge was added to everything on top of the 3 % card charge that we had no choice but to pay because they only accept card. This service charge varied inconsistently—20 % on some items, 12 %, 10 %, 7 % on others—making it impossible to understand, and it’s not included in the menu prices.

The water is beautiful and crystal‑clear, and the hotel is spotless and very quiet. But this stay completely ruined what should have been a relaxing holiday in Fiji. As an Asian guest, I felt treated noticeably differently from other guests and, after experiencing the same pattern repeatedly over three days, I seriously questioned whether racial bias was involved. First, the arrival experience was extremely uncomfortable: I saw other guests and families being welcomed with drinks, gifts, and proper attention, while I was left sitting on the sofa. I arrived early, so I understood the room might not be ready immediately; I was told it would probably take around one hour, which was fine. What was not fine was that nobody came back to update me or tell me when the room was ready. I simply waited while other guests received a much warmer welcome. Second, the resort boat service was honestly terrible, especially considering how much guests are charged for the transfer. On the way to the island, the driver told me they needed to load cargo. I arrived at around 10:00 a.m. and ended up waiting until around noon. On the return journey, the boat even stopped in the middle of the sea. I have taken many hotel and island transfers before, and I have never experienced anything quite like this. Third, the billing and internal communication were extremely disorganised. At check‑in, I selected and fully paid for the all‑inclusive package. Yet when I checked out, the staff still tried to charge me for the same package again. It genuinely felt as though the different departments were not communicating with each other at all. The dining experience was the worst part. I specifically paid for an all‑inclusive package covering breakfast, lunch and dinner, but most meals became an exercise in waiting. Except for lunch on the first day, service was unbelievably slow.

We had a fantastic stay at Serenity Island Resort, loved snorkeling directly out from our room, and the all‑inclusive package was great. At times, some of the alcohol was not available for particular cocktails, but that’s a small price to pay for spending time in paradise.
