Located in Bowness-on-Windermere, the Stags Head Hotel is a traditional Lakeland building within a 2-minute walk of the town centre. The hotel offers en-suite rooms with TVs, tea, and coffee facilities, as well as cooked breakfasts and home-cooked meals in the on-site pub restaurant. The room was clean and comfortable, yet there was no place to hang clothes and only one floor‑level socket. We had to nag the staff for an extension lead so we could use the kettle and hair dryer without cluttering the floor, and charge phones or watches. The shower door didn’t close properly, so water leaked onto the floor. The room clearly needs a refurbishment.

I’ve stayed here before and had a pleasant visit; breakfast was lovely and the staff were friendly, plus the location is great. The only downside this time was that the mattress was dirty, which put us off a bit, and at breakfast my partner wanted another coffee with his meal but was told he couldn’t because everything was shut off after 9.30 am. Still, we enjoyed the stay and would come back. The music was thought to be too loud for sleeping, but it wasn’t that bad; we were so tired it didn’t bother us.

The location. Disappointing stay – would not recommend Although the hotel was clean, the facilities were very dated. The location was great, but unfortunately, that was the only real positive about our stay. The door to our room had a gap of approximately two inches at the bottom, which raised serious concerns about fire safety and also allowed noise from the corridors to travel straight into the room. There was a bar and nightclub downstairs, with extremely loud music continuing into the early hours of the morning. We could hear people screaming, running up and down the stairs and corridors, shouting and banging doors throughout the night. We could also hear other guests moving around the hotel, making it almost impossible to get a decent night’s sleep. The shower was dreadful, with very little water pressure and only cold water. On top of that, there was considerable noise from the plumbing in other rooms. We were also told that breakfast was included, but our allocated breakfast slot was only from 8:30 am to 9:00 am. This is an incredibly short window compared with the usual couple of hours offered by most hotels. After such a disturbed night, you would expect to be able to have a lie-in and recover from the noise. However, if you wanted breakfast, you had no choice but to get up early. We did not manage to have breakfast, so I cannot comment on the quality of the food. However, advertising breakfast as included when guests are given such a restrictive 30-minute time slot is extremely misleading. It makes you wonder whether the limited hours are designed to discourage guests from using the service. Overall, this was an extremely uncomfortable and disappointing experience. Despite the good location and the fact that the hotel was clean, the dated facilities, lack of soundproofing, excessive noise, poor shower and restrictive breakfast arrangements made our stay thoroughly unpleasant. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and certainly would not stay here again

I was working next door to the hotel. There were too many issues to list, but the shower only gave cold water, among other problems.
