Located in Senboku, 孫六温泉六庵 offers air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms, tea and coffee makers, and free WiFi. Each room features a dining table, refrigerator, and TV. The ryokan boasts a hot spring bath, open-air bath, and river views, along with a restaurant serving Japanese cuisine and a coffee shop. Nearby attractions include Nyuto Hot Spring, 13 minutes away, and Akita Airport, 79 km distant.

The staff were charming. During dinner you could see the chefs cooking right in front of you. The place is wonderful, surrounded by a beautiful forest. Everything was comfortable and pleasant.

The property had just been renovated tastefully and intelligently. The rooms were large, comfortable, and refined, retaining a strong personality that blends tradition and technology. The scent of new wood, the calm flow of the river water, and the forest silence behind the buildings were the only sounds you’d hear (unless the windows were closed, which soundproof perfectly). The staff were always discreetly present, helpful, and friendly. The chefs, for dinner, spoke a bit of English and often engaged us in conversations or answered curious questions about our places of origin. Expressing ourselves differently, or using a translator, was never a problem. Magoroku, among Nyuto’s onsens, is the most hidden, giving it a unique aura. The baths, also renovated, follow a new philosophy equally relaxing, and are, of course, cared for, clean, and very beautiful. I stayed only one night, but it’s one of those places where you quickly realize you’d like to stay longer: 2‑3 days will completely reset you to the world. The best. The property is perfect regarding my habits and my opinion.

A unique boutique hotel with 6 rooms. Truly personal service. Breakfast and dinner were good. Everything was nice. The kitchen was really good. The location by the river channel is pretty. The modern and clean design is almost cold. In our room, and probably in other rooms on the lower floor and the room above, you have to constantly go up and down steep stairs even just to get water. Automatic lighting with motion sensors on the stairs lights the room every time you move or flip in bed.

The location is in full nature, calm and understated comfort; the staff are very kind and attentive; the meal is very polished and the sommelier’s advice on choosing sake is invaluable. The sulfur smell at night is natural to the Hot Spring experience.

Because the hotel only has six rooms, I never had to queue for the baths and could relax at my own pace. The mezzanine suite placed the toilet and sink on the lower level, which was a bit inconvenient and might be tough for older guests.
