“A seriously rundown and sad establishment.”

My bedroom had a nice view of the river and the en‑suite bathroom was clean and bright, but the building itself was dark and gloomy; most furniture and furnishings were dark brown, the sheets were polyester dark orange and the towels were far brown—ugh! They seemed unwashed since the last guest. The corridors and stairs were trip‑hazardous, the place felt cold and unwelcoming, and the cooked breakfast was mediocre—just one cup of coffee, one slice of toast, no muesli or yogurt, and cornflakes were the only cereal. I was the only guest, which explains why.

The food was very good and the only staff member we met was very friendly, and the bed was comfortable, but the en‑suite room was very basic and not very clean.

The Ken Bridge Hotel & Campsite might not look impressive from the main road, but inside it’s a cozy, charming place. It’s beautifully situated in New Galloway near the river, forest, and old stone bridge. The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, with good beds. The kitchen had plenty of character, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and well prepared. The only downside was that the hotel does not offer free wheelchair access.

“Great welcoming host”

We paid for the breakfast we wanted and chose the small cooked breakfast, which also included refreshments, cereal, and juices. It was good value and the service was excellent. The location by the river is pleasant, and there are local walks if you want to explore. The host was welcoming, helpful, and attentive to all our needs. Just be aware of a minor step in and out of the bathroom; mine was tight but manageable.

“A pleasant overnight with good food.”

The location is brilliant and the staff are very good. The room feels old-fashioned, which isn’t my favorite. The hotel doesn’t open until 4 pm, and there are no comfortable chairs except in the bedroom.
