We really enjoyed our short break at Alpenrose – a tiny family‑run hotel with lovely rooms, everything spotless and staff who were incredibly friendly. The food was excellent, though the property sits on a steep hillside and there’s no lift, so you end up doing a bit of climbing.

I booked on a whim to start early on the Via Valtellina, and the staff made it painless – the manager even met me at the bus stop so I didn’t have to trudge 300 m up in the rain. Even though I arrived late they still served the dinner menu, and the breakfast buffet was fantastic. My room was tidy, quiet and exactly what I needed.

The food was as good as mentioned before – really tasty – but the hosts were pretty curt, both when greeting me and saying goodbye, and they brushed off my attempts to compliment the meals.
