Hotel Skógá by EJ Hotels, situated 5 minutes from Skogafoss Waterfall at the foot of Eyjafjallajökull glacier, offers 12 cozy rooms with private facilities and simple, warmly decorated furnishings. The hotel is perfectly placed for outdoor adventures, including snowmobile tours, super jeep excursions, and ice climbing, as well as long walks, horseback riding, and birdwatching at nearby Dyrhólaey ocean cliffs.

I stayed near Skógafoss and caught a stunning northern light in the evening. The beds were comfy, the bathroom had a fresh shower, and when we needed breakfast earlier, they let us use the other property just a 5‑minute walk away. The on‑site restaurant was decent, with generous portions and prices that matched Icelandic standards. The only downside was that the rooms felt a bit chilly.

We booked two nights and paid a fair price, yet the service felt far below what we expected. Self‑check‑in worked, but the staff never appeared on the premises, never greeted us or offered tips, so the stay felt impersonal. The furnishings were not just basic; many pieces looked old, worn, and neglected, especially the chairs and furniture, giving the place a neglected vibe. Maintaining a remote island property is tough, but that still doesn’t excuse the lack of care. A few inexpensive fixes could have made the place feel more welcoming. Overall, the value didn’t match the cost.
