Located just outside Valletta's historic entrance, the Grand Hotel Excelsior boasts stunning views of Marsamxett Harbour and Manoel Island. This seafront hotel offers free parking, a gym, and two pools, plus landscaped gardens, a private beach, and spa. Classic and modern rooms feature air conditioning, LCD TVs, and balconies or terraces. Free WiFi and shuttle service to Valletta are available.

The location is great, the room is spacious with a coffee/tea station, there's an outdoor pool and a small private beach with sea access (they also have an indoor pool and spa, which we didn’t use), the place is clean, the reception staff are friendly, the breakfast is extensive and tasty, and parking is free in the underground garage. The air‑conditioning made a faint humming noise and couldn’t be fully turned off (we didn’t ask, maybe we were unaware). Overall it feels a bit dated, but that gives it a nostalgic charm—still clean and tidy. We’ll definitely book again.

I left early on my last day. Even though I’d paid for breakfast in my reservation, they tried to charge me for a simple take‑out breakfast. I’ve never seen that before, and it was extremely disappointing for a high‑end hotel.

The breakfast was very good, the complimentary shuttle is convenient, and the spot is close to Valletta and right on the water with great views. Reception never had any issues, but the toilet was a bit finicky.
