Hidden on a historic street in old Sakai, this brand‑new place offers a quiet retreat with typical Japanese touches – futon beds on tatami, a recessed tokonoma with a flower arrangement, and a small private garden. The shower, sink, and toilet are fully modern, and the A/C is quiet and effective. Having our own little breakfast corner in the paper‑craft shop was nice, as was access to a microwave, coffee maker, and juice. I didn’t buy the frozen breakfast items, preferring to buy bread at a fine bakery just down the main street (but go there in the afternoon the day before; it’s not open early in the morning!). The paper shop itself is full of fun souvenirs. I could have borrowed a bike and explored the very interesting neighborhood if I had time! The “chinchin densha” tram one block away was fun and handy. The futons were a bit thin for a large American woman, but being the only inhabitant of the room, I stacked a couple of them for a comfortable sleep, so no worries!

The room, bathrooms, etc. were very clean and pleasant. It was a bit disappointing that there was no TV.

I stayed for three weeks and I’m very happy with my choice. The room is very pleasant in an authentically charming neighborhood. The hosts are very available, welcoming, and helpful (they offered me a bicycle for my stay).

I stayed at a brand‑new, spotless hotel just a stone’s throw from Hankai Line Ayano‑cho Station, and there’s a 24‑hour drugstore right across the street. Even though it’s unmanned, the on‑site shop and office staff greet you, giving a reassuring vibe. The area isn’t packed with restaurants, but the sushi take‑away next door was delicious. The shared kitchen space was shut down at night, and the room Wi‑Fi kept cutting out because it’s routed through a repeater. There was no laundry nearby, so a fabric refresher like Febreze would have been handy. I’d also mentioned that the kids’ activity at the paper café, advertised before check‑in, was no longer offered.
