“It must have been an excellent place to stay once.”
The room was roomy with a touch of old‑world charm and décor, and the wooden floors creaked if that’s your thing. The bed felt comfy and the linens were clean. The staff, especially the gentleman at reception, were very helpful and welcoming. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. There’s both a front and a back garden, though my room only looked out at pine and fir trees; I heard some rooms offer a mountain view. If you’re into staying in a heritage property that keeps its old‑world vibe, located in the historic part of the city and want to experience everyday city life at moderate rates, this place fits the bill, though there are some shortcomings. The room lacked a towel rail, a hand towel in the bathroom, and hangers in the cupboard—small things that could be added if the management takes note. There was no AC or fan, and the staff mentioned they could provide pedestal fans in summer. Considering the moderate price, it’s not a huge issue, but if you’re planning a stay in May or June, when Shimla can get quite hot, it might be worth noting. The hotel sits a bit far from the city centre and Mall Road, but a taxi will cost about three hundred rupees. Taxi drivers in Shimla are generally nice, helpful, and self‑disciplined, and unlike many other places they don’t tend to overcharge.
