“Besser nicht”
1. The accommodation sits on a mountain. The access road is unpaved, long, and very steep. Vehicles lacking significant ground clearance, like ours, had to stop multiple times (despite extreme caution). 2. The building has no elevator, so luggage must be carried up several flights of stairs to the rooms. The stairs have handrails, but especially the staircase from the reception down to the dining room is extremely unsafe, a fact that hit me hard. 3. A slaughterhouse is some distance away from the accommodation. In the middle of the night, a siren blares repeatedly and loudly enough to break the night’s quiet. In the morning, one could see animals being driven into the slaughterhouse by trucks amid the noise. That’s not what we wanted to hear or see in the morning. 4. We couldn’t find any hotel staff that seemed helpful in any way. 5. Because we were under pressure to find accommodation that evening, we were swayed by the good overall rating. That was a mistake; if we had read the one‑star reviews, we would have definitely looked elsewhere.
