Lodge Yama No Manimani - Nature Stay in Okushiga Kogen

I can’t recommend this lodge enough! We had a wonderful stay at Lodge Yama No Manimani, just a few steps from Okushiga Kogen ski resort and the ski rentals. Every corner of this charming lodge feels thoughtfully designed, creating the perfect atmosphere for our visit. The owner and his wife cooked the meals, and the dinner was among the best we ate in Japan. Breakfast blended western and traditional Japanese dishes nicely. The onsen allowed reservations for up to three people to keep privacy, and the common area offered snacks and drinks for purchase. A kitchen was available for use, and local bus service runs at set times with a taxi option from Yudanaka station. The host was always just a quick message away, very accommodating, and answered any questions promptly.

“Best place we stayed during the whole trip”

During our 17‑day Japan trip that covered the entire country, including Hokkaido, Lodge Yama‑No‑Manimani stood out as the best place we stayed. It felt incredibly cozy and welcoming. The hosts were wonderful, gracious, spoke English fluently, and the food was honestly the best we had all over Japan. The dinners and breakfasts offered a genuine home‑cooked feel that differed from the other places we visited. Two private onsen could be booked during the stay, providing a very relaxing experience. Each room played carefully curated music, and the lodge was a short walk from the Okushiga Kogen lift, with about an hour’s travel to the snow‑monkey park. Just note that it is pretty remote and there isn’t much around, so plan to stay within the lodge during your visit.

The location is amazing—almost ski‑in, ski‑out with the Okushiga lift just a stone’s throw away. The lodge is beautifully decorated with many thoughtful touches, including underfloor heating, boot warmers, a kitchenette and lounge upstairs, and great lighting in the rooms. The five‑course meals were exceptional, and the breakfasts were perfect for fueling a day on the slopes. There was nothing to complain about; I’ll be recommending it to my family and will definitely return.
